Itinerary
Reception at the airport or bus terminal and transfer to the office for corresponding registrations. Transfer to the port captaincy where we will take the boat for approximately one hour to our lodge. Welcome meeting with a refreshing fruit juice from our region. Check-in and installation in our respective rooms. After a restful break, you will have an introductory two-hour walk in the dense tropical forest, guided by a local expert guide. You will explore our trails and have the opportunity to observe a variety of trees that can be over five hundred years old, as well as some species of wild animals such as toucans, oropendolas, macaws, monkeys, snakes, butterflies, and more. You will have the chance to experience the magic of our Amazon rainforest, which is within the Tambopata National Reserve (278,000 hectares of protected land). In the evening, we will go in search of white caimans that are usually found on sandbanks in the Madre de Dios River. It will be necessary to bring a flashlight for this activity. We may also see the capybara, the world’s largest rodent that can weigh up to 60 kilograms. Return to the lodge for dinner and rest.
After breakfast, we will walk 3 km through the dense tropical forest towards Lake Sandoval, one of the largest lakes in the Tambopata National Reserve. We will take a paddle boat ride on the lake, where we will appreciate a great variety of birds and different species of monkeys, such as shanshos, cormorants, jacanas, puma herons, vultures, cotomonos, monk sakis, black capuchins, squirrel monkeys, and sloths. We might have an encounter with the giant otter family (almost two meters long), which is an endangered species, as well as the largest recorded caimans measuring over 4 meters long. We will return to the lodge to enjoy a typical lunch. In the evening, we will have a night walk where we can appreciate the diversity of insect species, amphibians, reptiles, and other nocturnal animals. Dinner and rest.
